Hola lo leí y no entiendo porque escriben fuego y hielo, pensaba que fuego e hielo está en lo cierto .

Pensaba que se debe usar "e" ahí porque la combinación "hi" siena como "y", pero escribiste "fuego y hielo". Quizás no lo estoy entiendo

Lo que puso Irmamar es que la "hi" de hielo suena como la "ll" de llama y no como "y" (la conjunción).

Así que es correcto fuego y hielo (fuego y llelo)

Well, not exactly like a "ll", but more similar to a "y" (i griega), even softer. In fact this is called "yod" and, phonetically, its symbol is /j/. Vowels i and u sometimes are semi-consonants or semi-vowels. It's the same in English. How do you pronounce the "e" of "the" before "universe"? Do you pronounce it in the same way than before "air"?

Juan e Isabel salen juntos.
Geografía e Historia son mis asignaturas preferidas.

I think the issue is if in English "A universe or An Universe" is correct.

¿Decís que hay los excepciones al regla como "a universe / an universe" , y que "y hielo / y yema, ect" es una de ellas?

No es una excepción, es una norma: delante de la sílaba "hie" no puedes poner la conjunción "e", sino "y": y hielo, y hierro, y hierba, y hiena, y hiel, y hiedra, y hierático, y hierbabuena (y ya no se me ocurren más ).

I'm not very sure if I'm well with the five elements of the world.

I know of only four classical elements: earth, air, fire, and water

(Another word for earth is ground or soil, but earth is the word used when we recite the four classical elements.)

Por algo razón recuerdo el quinto como "hierra" o "cielo" . No sé , lo adivino
