Footing
footing.
(Voz francesa, y esta con cambio de sentido del ingl. footing 'posición' ). 1. m. Paseo higiénico que se hace corriendo con velocidad moderada al aire libre. I always thought that "footing" was a synonym of "jogging" in English... yet that must be a misconception I had, as I cannot find this meaning in any English "footing" definition. Can anyone shed some light into this? In Spanish we can say "Me voy a hacer footing para despejarme un poco y vuelvo en una horita..." which means "I am going for a jog to clear my head a bit and I'll be back in about an hour [or less] ['a small hour']" Is there any place in English when "footing" has been used in this sense, or is it utterly incorrect (in English)??

And, well, I never know if I am going to meet Ismael, or some of his friends... so it's always good to know the blubber thing... (even if only to read Moby Dick...)

"Footing" como deporte es una palabra tan inglesa como "puenting". O sea, ningún inglés monolingüe tendrá ni idea de qué estás hablando.

Yes, it funny, because I found out about this thanks to an American who had studied Spanish when he was a kid, in Spain, and he, himself, was convinced of the same misconception many Spaniards have... At any rate, good to have it clarified!
