This is a pronominal verb: you don't "te atreves a ti mismo" (as you could say with reflexive verbs: te lavas a ti mismo, te peinas a ti mismo)

Irmamar - I looked "te apuntas" up on another website and it seems that it is equivalent to the English "Are you in?" This is similar to "Are you game?", but "Are you game" has more danger and intrigue implied.

Some scenarios:
- "Kristi and I are going to go out for a hamburger and will probably pick up a movie. Are you in (with us)?"
- "At the amusement park nearby they have bungee jumping. I'm scared to death to try it, but I think I could do it if you went with me. Are you game?" (In other words, "do you dare do something so scary!?")

Do you see the difference in intensity of the situation?
