".... trabajando para traer muchas monedas de oro a casa que-y esto sea dicho sin afán de crítica -bien las necesitaba,por lo que yo podía entender.." Que quiere decir con esto?

"Sin afán de crítica" = sin la intención de juzgar mal la situación

La aparente codicia de traer mucho dinero a la casa y la necesidad del dinero pueden ser causa de vergüenza entre muchas personas, así que el narrador afirma que describe de manera objetiva lo que pasa en su casa.
