Este andaluz de 61 años es el preso común más antiguo de España.

What exactly does it mean? Does it mean he is the oldest prisoner in Spain, or that he has spent more time in prison than anybody else in Spain? :thinking::thinking:

He has spent more time in prison. Talking about the age of a person, "antiguo" would never be used (mayor, anciano, viejo). :)

That would mean he is the oldest prisoner, i.e. of the greatest age :thinking::)

otro ejemplo:
Anciana detenida vendiendo marihuana --> Si va a la carcel, será la más vieja, pero no la más antigua.

Paco tiene 101 y lo echaron a una celda ayer. Es el preso más viejo de España.
Manolo tiene 61 y está encarcelado desde los 21. Lleva 40 años continuados en la cárcel. Es el preso más antiguo de España.
Joselillo tiene 81 y está encarcelado desde los 51. Estuvo previamente en la cárcel 5 veces por un total de 20 años, por lo que lleva acumulados 50 años en la cárcel. No es el preso más viejo ni el más antiguo de España.

No, Crotalito, he is not the oldest, but the person who has spent more time in prison. He can be Andalusian, but this doesn't mean that he is in an Andalusian prison necessarily, he might be in any prison of any region in Spain. ;)

"Viejo", entre otras cosas, significa "antiguo". El problema era la ambigüedad que generaba haber sido claro antes y haber dicho "viejo es Fulano" lo que se aplica a la persona (mayor) y al dictador (antiguo).

I didn't know it.
Almost here in my country the prison is necessary for the capos drugs, and well I don't know, what is the oldest person in the jail here in my city.
