I want to say "If the students had the opportunity to retake the tests, how would the parents interpret their grades?"
Would it be as follows:
Si los estudiantes tuvieran la oportunidad para retomar los exámenes, ¿cómo los padres interpretarían las calificaciones?
I just don't think that the construction of the last half of the sentence is correct.....

My attempt:Si los estudiantes tuvieran la oportunidad de volver a hacer los exámenes, ¿cómo interpretarían las calificaciones los padres?

@Lou Ann: "retomar" is used when someone hasn't finished an activity, did something else, and then goes back to it:
· Tuve que dejar de estudiar alemán hace dos años, pero voy a retomar mis cursos el mes que viene.
· Después de salir del hospital, a María le costó mucho trabajo retomar sus actividades normales.
· Cuando regreso de vacaciones, me siento con más energía para retomar mi trabajo.

That also makes a lot of sense, Malila. I used "retomar" because it's what my dictionary had for "retake". The idea is that students will have the opportunity to retake any test on which they receive a grade that they want to improve. Although the principles behind the thinking make a lot of sense, there are a lot of details to work out and a lot of the teachers are extremely resistant to the policy. I decided to write the next essay for my tutor on my thinking about grades and about the retake policy. I already went back and changed all of the times I used "retomar" to "volver a hacer". :D
