Pretty much like here in the U.S.

Yes it's right here in Mexico people old work having around 70 years old, and it for me is very bad and frightful, because the people of that age should be enjoying the end of their life.:(

That is your opinion. Maybe some people would enjoy working to the end of their lives.

Do what you love and you´ll never work a day in your life :):)

If you say "lo que te ame" it means "do what loves you" ;)
Very true, Bob. :)

She was referring to the job (work).
Living without working (whether I like it or not) ...

Thanks (!!), and yes, Malila - Rusty picked up on my meaning. The context of the conversation was that if you love what you do, it's not really "work". In my opinion, whether I love it or hate it, I don't want to stop working. Is there a better way to say that in Spanish?

No, actually, Here4good, I'm not young, but I am single and childless. That's part of why I want to keep working. The idea of retirement is terrifying to me because I will be completely alone and with nothing to do. I hate weekends, Fridays are depressing ... I can't imagine having a "last day" of work with nothing to look forward to ... ever.............
