I've never been to the Philippines, but I have an American friend of Filipino descent. And just yesterday we went to his home for a barbecue and he introduced me to two friends of his who work in the Embassy of the Philippines here in Madrid. I was really excited to meet them, because they were incredibly friendly and I felt really at home with them because they have a Californian accent (they grew up in the States) and that's the nearest thing to my own 'self-invented' accent. I was also happy because I'm an English teacher and one of them said she could come to the school where I work to give a presentation (power point, posters and all the works) for our students.
