    Writing Hello, man sounds a little unnatural (formal register and slang mixed together). If you want to use man (and it's OK to do so with me) in a more natural way, use a greeting like Hey, man. If you still want to use Hello, try Hello sir or Hello there. These are more formal.

    How are you? is in the formal register, so it can follow Hello (and other formal variants).

    If you want to say something less formal (more colloquial), follow Hey, man with What's up? or How's it going? or How ya doin'? (last example is missing an auxiliary verb (are) and is considered low class, but is commonly said)
