Hi, David!
Please check out the new post I entered for "no en balde". I believe you guys are not getting it.
It has nothing to do with the negative:
nothing to do with "no"
nothing to do with "en"
nothing to do with "balde"
Somehow somebody tried to make sense of this with a literal translation and it makes no sense.

Please let me know what you think. I would like to hear from you after you confirm with older Spanish speakers. Perhaps most of the posts for this idiom were replied by not native Spanish speakers born in US. I may be wrong.
