In the Caribbean, they still do. It's an effective mosqito repellent when burnt. It would probably repel me too, but abono is good stuff.

If you read Sosia's post above, you'll understand both how we use basto and vasto in Spain. I think I caused some confusion with my spelling mistake.:)
