I'm sorry. Perhaps I wasn't clear. When I said I don't understand every word I meant that there will sometimes be one or two that I don't know.


I do read in Spanish - I 'borrow' my teenage daughter's set books which she has to read at school when she has finished with them.

I don't know about reading aloud though:o

Read something that interest you as a woman and not as a mom.

Do it aloud, as it will builds confidence, besides fluidity and softening your accent. :)

You know, you will not like your voice, that's first shock.

The second shock comes when you realize how bad your accent is. You will want to die right on the spot!

But all will be ok and worth it. :)

I know I hate my voice in English:eek:


I was told a few days ago that my Spanish accent is beautiful. The (Spanish) man was enquiring about English lessons & couldn't speak a word of English, so we had quite a chat in Spanish.

I think he was being kind:shh:

I'm sure he didn't mean that I sound Spanish. My children do though:)

Pienso que me gusta cuando lo hablo ..hasta que hable un erre :D. Pero siempre me ayuda la práctica.:rolleyes:

Yes I know. I get that all the time. Usually one tends to find cute someone else's accent.

@xchic: if you already knew about those mistakes, you only need to stay alert and your Spanish will be much smoother. :thumbsup:

Mostly it's just bad habits. for example, I learned that 'pero' = 'but', so used that all the time. Eventually I learned when to use 'sino', but I am so use to using 'pero' that I tend to forget about 'sino', especially in conversation!

I tried to do the exercise 'off the cuff', as if I were just 'chatting'. If I had been paying more attention I hope I would have made less mistakes:crossfingers:

That's where transcribing a novel in Spanish and reading out loud comes in handy.
