Oír vs. Escuchar - Page 2

Claro... just that I've heard it always as oír in my experience.

Here, you will always listen "escuchar". If you say "Me gusta oir música" and we don't know nothing more about you, you will likely be a foreigner or an intelectual, or something like that(a little bit exagerated). It's easy and common for someone that knows that is speaking with a person that is from a foreign language or a different slang, to speak in a more neutral manner or just in a different way from the one he is used to speak with. I mean, in an artificial way for him.
Actually, I believe that around here the word that appears the most(is this right?) after "escuchar" is "música".
"¿Qué hacés?"
"Escucho música." / "Estoy escuchando música"

I give you an audio as an answer for you to practice listening :rolleyes: (:rolleyes:=my pronunciation is just horrible, who can practice with that?) I spoke naturally, even a bit fast(as I always do). Maybe this can help for you to compare.(about what I've said, let's see if you can clear that out. I actually said the first that came to my forehead.)

Thanks for that recording! You didn't speak as fast as the man in the podcasts I've been listening to. BUT ... I didn't hear you say the word escuchar.... Was it in there somewhere? Can you give me a rough transcription (in Spanish...)? GRACIAS!

It was an idiot answer to your correction, not to the topic :P (I have nothing more to say about escuchar: all the sounds you percieve with or without volunteer attention, are "escuchar" around here.

OH!!!!!!!!!!! I totally understand when I see it written out. I don't know all of those words, so I missed a lot of it until I looked them up. Ack! How am I going to survive a whole 6 weeks!!?? Eeeeek!!

I had the same question you did laepelba just now. God bless old threads! :) I had never heard of Escuchar. Oír, oigo, oiga and oyendo is used by family and friends around me. This was great info for me thanks!
