Snob

Snob

Please, how do you say Snob in Spanish?

Tomisimo May 26, 2008 08:50 AM

I believe you can say esnob. In Mexico, una persona fresa, is a stuck-up, snobbish person.

Don't be a snob = No seas fresa.

Iris May 26, 2008 08:57 AM

That fresa thing is lovely, David. I would say "No seas cursi"

Tomisimo May 26, 2008 08:59 AM

Cursi would be the better way of saying snob, since it would be understood in more places. But in Mexico this usage of fresa is really common.

LaGata May 26, 2008 09:09 AM

I've heard the word "pesado"/"pesao" used in Puerto Rico, to mean snobbish or stuck up.

Iris May 26, 2008 09:10 AM

Over here pesado means a pain in the neck.

LaGata May 26, 2008 09:13 AM

I'll remember that next time my husband gets on my nerves :-)

I´ve heard the esnob option, but then, I thought that since almost all Spanish people pronounce the English "S" as "ES", my friend was only trying to speak English.

I agree with esnob (plural esnobs) and cursi.

Iris May 26, 2008 09:36 AM

Wow! Wonderful list. I think you spell pretencioso.

Rusty May 26, 2008 09:38 AM

Correct. Corrected. Thanks!

Pesado can also be rough/mean.
No jueguen pesado.
Don't play so rough.

No seas pesado
con ella.
Don't be mean to her.

Marsopa May 26, 2008 09:00 PM

cursi

I always thought that cursi meant something more along the line of tacky...

Marsopa

poli May 26, 2008 09:18 PM

I always thought cursi meant course and rude.
Could you say con la nariz en el aire?

I believe you can say ser nariz parada.

Alfonso May 27, 2008 02:17 PM

Nunca he oído ese juego de narices que os traéis, Rusty y Poli.
Sí lo he oído con respecto a la barbilla: ... lleva siempre la barbilla muy alta. Pero no significa snob ni cursi, sino orgulloso.

Iris May 27, 2008 02:21 PM

You have the same idea in English. If I tell you "Keep your chin up" I mean there's no reason for you to be ashamed. You also have the expression "to stand tall".

celador May 27, 2008 10:39 PM

I was just testing the editor to see if it would put the tomisimo link with the word. It appears to be working well.

In Mexico, una persona fresa, is a stuck-up, snobbish person.

Don't be a snob = No seas fresa.[/quote]
