May I use food in plural or it is always a singular noun?

Uno momento - food and foods are not the same. Foods are certain groups of food. Food is a general term. I'm going away to think about this, but they are not interchangeable. :thinking:

We are talking only about the plural of food, right?

Mi comida/alimento lo provee mi trabajo....

Mis comidas/alimentos los proveen/son privistos por mi trabajo.

Yes. Both food and foods are correct, and I'm trying to work out if there is a difference. I think not, really.

"Food" es complicado. Puede funcionar como sustantivo contable o no contable (mass noun). Personalmente prefiero "One of the main reasons that preservatives are used in certain foods", pero "... certain food" también está bien. "A food" me suena un poco extraño, pero se ve de vez en cuando.

Estoy curioso, ¿por qué has escrito "one of the main reasons because"? ¿En español escribirías "una de las principales razones porque"? Lo pregunto porque yo lo escribiría "una de las principales razones por las que".

Sigo sin entender porque has dicho lo de writer's block. No escribo novelas en estos foros.

No sé sabe por qué se usan aditivos en los alimentos. Aquí usaría why.
No se saben las razones por las que / por que se usan aditivos. Aquí creo que sería más lógico usar because, porque no preguntas, sino afirmas.

Hay dos más:

No se sabe el porqué del uso de aditivos (no se sabe el motivo)
Usan aditivos porque quieren. Aquí también usaría because.
