una buena palabra para mop en español
fregona, lampazo, mapo, alfofifa(?), fregasuelos, trapero. I wonder why.
I use trapeador, you could also try mechudo, pero creo que eso es Mexican slang.
¡NO ES UNA MOPA! http://www.elblogsalmon.com/images/fregona.jpg lampazo, alfofita, trapero no las he oído nunca Saludos :D |
Amazing list
That is an impressive list for mop.
Great pictures too. |
The household words usually have lots of variety. Should we try some others?
Like sink. Or blanket? Or any other interesting common word? |
FAUCET DOOR KNOB En diferentes paises....... Elaina:confused::confused::confused: |
blankets doorknobs faucets
For blanket, some use colcha or endredon. For doorknobs I've heard pomo and perilla but I think it depends on where the knob is located on the door, and if I'm not mistaken sometimes picaporte is used(if the perilla is not round). For faucet I've heard grifa but use pluma and I am sure there are other words that may be more internationally understood. A bathroom sink is a lavamono.
|
Sosia, I hope you meant
lavamano...
Marsopa |
I have heard grifo (not grifa though) and I think edredon (sin la n) is more of a feather quilt than a blanket, right?
Marsopa |
doorknob
Is manija a word for doorknob that's not round? Oops lavamano (not lavamono ni lavachango). That was a typographafical error.

Blanket: manta: blanket cover: colcha/edredón doorknob: pomo de puerta/picaporte door handle: manilla/tirador door knocker: aldaba/tirador/picaporte faucet: grifo bathroom sink: lavamanos Kitchen sink: Fregadero toilet: inodoro, váter, excusado o taza de baño saludos :D |
Thank you, Sosia. I could not remember the word manilla. I was thinking it was manija or clavija.
|
I have learned some of the same words:
Blanket - manta (my friend said, "What are you trying to say"?) Sink - fregadero (my friend says this is a wash board, not a sink) Bathroom sink - lavabo (This was a free-standing sink, not one with a counter top or double sink. Can I use this word to mean both?) What about stove and refrigerator? I've learned: Stove - Cocina (showed a stove in a home) Oven - Horna (showed a large brick oven used in a pizzeria) Refrigerator - Frigorífico (my Mexican friends don't like this word) Thanks! |
Brenda,
Your Mexican friends will prefer nevera over frigorífigo which sounds kind of industrial. Some older people from the Caribbean will use frigidaire for refrigerator. I use estufa for stove and horno for oven. |
In Mexico:
refrigerator - refrigerador fridge - refri blanket - cobija stove - estufa oven - horno doorknob - manija or perilla faucet - llave (de agua) sink - lavabo bathroom sink - lavabo del baño kitchen sink - fregadero |

Bathroom sink - lavabo/lavamanos (I usually use lavabo) ¿¿not one with a counter top or double sink?? photo?? stove: estufa (for warming) horno (for cooking) oven: horno refrigerator: frigorífico/nevera/refrigerador I remember: This is the common usage in Spain. Other countries/regions can use other words. And some words can have different meanings with other words. For example: I can say "cámara frigorífica" (cold-storage room) or "cámara refrigeradora" but no "cámara nevera". saludos :D |
Sorry for mixing you up, Poli
with Sosia. I have heard manija for a door handle (knob that isn't round).
|
Yes marsopa, poli already said manija.
door handle: manilla, manija, it's like manilla saludos :D |
Hola.
Saludos. |
