Banshee

Banshee

Good morning, what would be a good translation for the word banshee. "The banshee moaned and wailed in sorrow."

Thank you!

Because it is specific to Ireland, perhaps the word banshee should remain untranslated but if you need to translate it, maybe you can use
llorona de mal agüero/ nefasta llorona (de mitológia irlandés).

"La llorona" is only a Mexican ghost, and I don't think it would be easily understood anywhere else. I have always seen "banshee" exactly as "banshee" in Spanish (maybe sometimes with a little note explaining her nature).

A proposal:
"La banshee gemía y lloraba/se lamentaba tristemente".

Thank you. I do understand "La llorona" though. I don't think this ghost is exclusive to Mexico, I'm from South America ;)

Great! I won't feel so lonely then. ;)
