Ser perejil de todas las salsas

It means to be the focus of attention. In English?

Ubiquitous
Omnipresent
I have heard (though I'm not sure it's commonly used) like dogshit, he's everywhere

AngelicaDeAlquezar February 16, 2011 03:33 PM

@Poli: The idea is of course to be everywhere, but also wanting to be noticed. Like what was said about T. Roosevelt: "He wants to be the bride at every wedding, the corpse at every funeral, and the baby at every christening". :)

Btw, Mexican equivalent is "ser el ajonjolí de todos los moles".

ROBINDESBOIS February 16, 2011 03:35 PM

Exacto, eso es.

Then I think the closest English term is publicity junkie(Madonna, Andy Warhol, Lady Gaga) which sounds a bit stronger than the parsley in every sauce to me, but if it means publicity seeking then the bolded term is the one we in the United States use.

By the way:
Among Puerto Ricans the term for omnipresent is como el arroz blanco (meaning to be everywhere as rice is in most of the Caribbean)

chileno February 16, 2011 09:34 PM

Exacto. Platito de arroz, va con todo! ;)

Ser perejil de todas las salsas significa estar en todas partes (modo figurado) y "tener" que decir la suya, no importa si es compatible con el argumento, para hacerse notar.

Attention Whore - They will do ANYTHING for attention
Attention Hog - They hog all the attention for themselves

"He always has to be the center of attention" is how I would say it general.

If I did not like the person, I would say "They are a such an attention whore." Obviously, the second sentence has a much more derogatory meaning.

Un amigo carribeño me dijo que en su pais dicen «es el achote de todas las bodas»
