Apuesta

Is there any difference between a wager and a bet?

Thanks. :)

None that I'm aware of in common usage.

My book talks about "a bet or wager" and I thought there could be any difference. Now I realise that there mustn't be any because the verb used is "is".

Thanks. :)

I glanced through a dictionary and bet was used to define wager and wager was used to define bet. I sense an identity... :D

However, when some friends and I went to a racetrack last summer, we all talked about our bets and which horses we were betting on. No one ever mentioned a wager -- the word would have seemed a bit formal. Maybe we can find someone to disagree with me....
