Social studies - Buenas Noches a Todos :) Translation needed

 I'm currently teaching a basic Spanish class to 3rd graders and we're working on a journal entry entitled (todo acerca de mi) all about me- and I need to know what the translation of "social studies" is. If anyone knows that would be greatly appreciated. Gracias por su ayuda.

Can you give me more text? "social studies" is english, the literal translation es "estudios sociales" but I don't have enough info.
Greetings :D

Welcome Alyssa,

I don't have a definitive answer for you, but aren't social studies mostly concerned with history? You might want to just use 'historia'.

I would say Sociología but more context is needed to be sure.

Sociology is very analytical. It can called a science. Social Studies is more related to history but on a social level. For instance: The history of the civil rights movement is a social studies subject.. I also would be interested in finding out if there is an equivalent in Spanish.

For what it's worth, it appears that Tomísimo's answer - estudios sociales - is used quite a bit on the internet, especially in this hemisphere.

Social Science

The California Department of Education defines Social Science for elementary level schools as historia-ciencias sociales. You can go to www.cde.ca.gov/mulitlingual documents.

After thinking about it, for lack of a better term, I'd probably translate social studies as "estudios del medio social y cultural en un contexto histórico".
