Dale

Are there any differences in usage between this word and English "ok"?

poli May 03, 2011 10:11 AM

You mean vale.
It means OK in Spain, Argentina, Mexico, and maybe other places too.
This term is not frequently used in Caribbean Spanish, but it's used a lot in Spain.

Dále mean means give it. It can mean step on the gas and others things too.

We sometimes use "dale" meaning "go ahead" .

I don't know if it's used everywhere.

What Poli said is also right, "vale" is used meaning "I agree".

They use "vale" in Spain. In Argentina you can use "dale" as "OK" with a value close to "go ahead", as Luna told. As d'accord we use "bueno" and "okey".

With "vale":

-¿Quieres que nos encontremos en la cafetería esta tarde?

-¡Vale!

With "dale":

-¿Crees que deba contestar esa carta?
-¡Dale!

-Tengo deseos de irme de viaje a Europa

-¡Dale!

Of course you can add other things like: "Dale, te mereces unas vacaciones".

;)

Which ones? Every single time I've used it so far, people point it out and say "they only use that in Spain," or "You must have learned your Spanish in Spain."

gatoneo July 12, 2011 12:34 PM

todos los hispanohablantes podemos entende el sentido de esa respuesta: "vale". . . pero entre nosotros también lo relacionamos con la forma como hablan en España. .

Así que si yo escucho a alguien decir "vale", yo mismo pienso que es alguien que es de España.

At least here in México Dale means Gives some to someone.
In other places as was said before for an user means a slang.

Best Regards.
