Pronouns exercise 5-2
I'm working on some exercises about pronouns. There's more to them than I realized. :D
This exercise is a translation exercise with sentences given to me in English to translate to Spanish. I got most of them correct, but have questions about these two: 7) English: That is why you should vote. My translation: Por eso debes votar. The book's translation: Eso es por qué debes votar. 8) English: That is why I shouldn't smoke. My translation: Por esto no debo fumar. The book's translation: Esto es por qué no debo fumar. I know that what the book gives is a literal translation. But as for the actual meanings of the sentences, does my original attempt suffice? Does it mean the same thing, basically? Thanks!! |

Not only you are right. "Eso es por qué debes votar" and the other one are anacoluthons; double ones indeed. "Esa es la razón por la que debes votar", "No deberías fumar y ese es el porqué". Or for short -and practical reasons- the answers you've given.

Thanks, both of you. I was actually more comfortable with my own answers, but wasn't sure if it was false hope........ :D
