Manifestar(se)

Manifestar(se)

Could this be ambiguous out of context?:

La dueña del pit-bull manifestó que tenía la documentación obligatoria para poseer un animal de esas características.

I read that as the owner proved/demonstrated that she had .....

But the next sentence read

Sin embargo, no pudo acreditar tal testimonio ante los agentes.

Showing that it in fact meant

The owner claimed she had...

So can manifestar mean to show in the sense of to prove? Thanks

It's not ambiguous. "Manifestar" here has the meaning of telling somethng.

Some synonyms could be: decir, aseverar, afirmar, declarar...

The woman said she had the documents, but was not able to show them.

The other meaning of "manifestar" has to do with feelings, attitudes, emotions...

From Merriam-Webster:

Synonyms: bespeak, betray, communicate, declare, demonstrate, display, evince, expose, give away, show, reveal

My confusion was because I had misread my dictionary. I had understood manifestarse as to demonstrate. Now to demonstrate can mean to prove, but I had not noticed that this meaning of manifestarse is true only in the (political) context of being part of a demonstration or rally. Duh.

Thanks anyway. :):)

I knew that, and that's why I posted the way I did. ;)
