how do we say in Enlish, la gente es muy consumista?
THe dictionary says consumistic, but I don´t think that´s the word people use.

consumista adjetivo: es una sociedad consumista como la nuestra it is a consumer society like ours; piensa que la juventud de hoy es muy consumista he thinks that young people today are very materialistic.

So: people are very materialistic
people live in a consumer society.

(consumistic is unknown to me)

I agree with Perikles regarding U.S. English: people who live in a consumer (or materialistic) society are materialistic. I have never heard "consumistic" before.
