Does the expression cicerone exist In English to mena sb who shows around a city. How is it pronounced?

Having said that, not many people would know the word. A city guide or town guide would be more common. |
I've never heard the word before, though it does show up in my print edition of the American Heritage Dictionary. The word is mostly unfamiliar here in the U.S.; usually the word for someone paid to take you around to the sights is a "(tour) guide", while inside a tourist destination the words may be "tour guide", "interpreter" or "docent", depending partly on context and partly on the usual custom in the particular type of institution.
