Afán de superación
I saw this evening The black Swan and it´s amazing how the leading actress tryes to superarse herself. The afán de superación is incredible.
How do I say in English Afán de superación and superarse a sí misma? |

her eagerness to outdo herself.:good: her eagerness to surpass herself :good::good: |
Her eagerness to overcome herself?

I would like to see what native speakers say, but I've seen "overcome" only used when talking about something or someone that is not me.
"...to excel herself" maybe? |
I saw it in a pro translation. But it sounds bizarre to me.

It's not correct. Use what Perikles suggested.

I'm with Rusty: we don't use either "excel" or "overcome" reflexively. Perikles suggestions are perfect.

Thank you! :rose:
