Lo peor de lo peor

Lo peor de lo peor

English?

Madrid es lo peor de lo peor.
Context. The way they treat teachers.

Rusty May 28, 2012 08:56 AM

Madrid is the worst of the worst.

Hey - how dare you. :p

I can quote from Charles Dickens, saying "the lowest of the low". (1850?) What's your earlier Spanish source then? :p:p

Well, there are several examples...

(By the by, La Regenta is a very good read, in my book.)

(CORDE gives also an example from 1758, by José Francisco de Isla.)

Mmmm... I was about to say "the bestest" :p, but I contain myself...
La "crème de la crème", "the very best"... would be good options too...

And in "Spanish" we have "er máh meho" (el más mejor) which although "incorrect", it is used with a comic effect... :D
