Estar más tiempo = spend more time?

Just wondering on the accuracy of this. And if its true, is there a way I can tell that this means spend more time, as opposed to the obviously incorrect "be more time"? in this same sense, how would you say "spend some time with friends"? would it be "estar unos tiempo con amigos?"

Thanks for the explanation!!

'Estar más tiempo' means 'to be (somewhere) more time', so, essentially, you're spending more time in a particular place. 'Quedarse más tiempo' would have the same meaning and could also be translated as 'stay a little longer'.

The concept of spending time has a couple of different translations. For a question like, "Where did you spend Thanksgiving?" you would use 'pasar'. To spend time with someone is 'pasar tiempo' or 'pasar el tiempo con'.

To spend some time with friends = Pasar (el) tiempo con unos amigos
To spend more time with my friends = Pasar más tiempo con mis amigos
