To lie down, lie next to etc

Hi there I'm unsure how to translate this concept in Spanish, does it depend on context whether you use, acostar, dormir, yacer or I guess even something things like hundir?

Eg. Could someone please help me with the translations of the following so that I can get a feel for it, thanx

The puppies are lying next to each other.

The puppy is lying on the floor.

I lay on the deck of the boat.

The ship was lying on the bottom of the ocean.

There are specific meanings and collocations:

Los cachorros están echados uno junto al otro.
El perrito está echado en el suelo.
Estoy tendido sobre la cubierta del bote.
El bote yacía sobre el fondo del océano.

Las personas se recuestan (apoyan sobre algo) o acuestan (se ponen completamente "horizontales", generalmente de costado)
Los cuadrúpedos se echan.
Los voladores se posan.
Los sólidos muy pesados yacen (aunque estén semi-enterrados)
Las cosas están tiradas (desordenadamente), tendidas (ordenadamente) o tumbadas (porque han caído de costado).
Una persona puede utilizarse a sí misma como una cosa y tirarse, arrojarse, tenderse o tumbarse.

There are lots of meanings and derived words that may appear in dictionaries but are dated or expected to be a part of specific collocations:
"Yacer" is strongly associated to "yacer en su lecho de muerte" ("lying on his/her deathbed"), so it's associated with being still and dead-like, hence "el barco yace en el fondo del mar", but dated when "yacer" is biblical for intercourse. Also "yacija", an improvised bed or the bed of a poor person, is a dated word.
