Picking

Buenos Dias!!

Stop picking on your scab!! -o-
You will spread the warts if you are picking on them.

UGH!!:yuck:

Anyways...........help

Elaina:thinking:

Welcome back , Elaina. I would translate to pick as tocar in the two examples you have given.

Tomisimo May 27, 2008 01:39 PM

Welcome back Elaina!

In addition to tocar, as Iris says, here are some other possible options. Sé que se usa picar en Mexico.
Stop picking on your scab!
No te estés picando la costra.
No estés rasgando la costra.

You will spread the warts if you are picking on them.

So, another gross question. How do they say to pick one's nose in Spanish in the Americas?:yuck:

Hey, guys. I've just been promoted to emerald. So that means I'll be throwing a party to celebrate and you're all invited. You have to pay for your own plane tickets, though. And please bring a bottle...

Another source says hurgar las narices.

To pick through, dig through, fish through, rummage, move things around
Reflexive form: To poke one's nose in, poke, rake

To pour salt on a wound = hurgar en una/su/tu herida

Rusty, Iris, please, I need to hear your contributions. What's the term
in your neck of the woods.

Iris May 27, 2008 03:30 PM

Meterse el dedo en la nariz. Not very original, I'm afraid.

Rusty May 27, 2008 05:37 PM

suena gracioso.:D
Do you say that in Spain, Sosia?

sosia May 28, 2008 03:02 AM

"buscar petroleo" is more for young people, to another person who is "searching"
So "¿Estás buscando petroleo?" it's a way of saying "what are you searching in your nose?
saludos :D

In Mexico I've heard picarse la nariz.

Iris May 28, 2008 07:06 AM

Quite the Anglicism!

Elaina May 28, 2008 08:51 AM

Gracias a todos por sus sugerencias (and then some).

Elaina:cool:
