Contaje de sangre

Contaje de sangre

Translating a handwritten diary is a challenge but I believe the sentence says

Original:
Hubo un paciente con apendicitis y ninguno de los muchachos sabía hacer un contaje de sangre.

My attempt:
There was a patient who has appendicitis and none of the boys knew how to make a ................................... [something to do with blood].

Does that term ring a bell with any medical person out there? I tried looking up every possible alternative spelling of contaje but came up dry.

My guess is blood count, but contaje de sangre is a very unusual term. Hemograma is the unsual usage.

I agree with Poli about blood count. But I've never heard "contaje" before. I've always heard "conteo".

Well, that's what I'll go with, and say "take a blood count." Thanks to both of you!

«"contaje" de sangre» is a popular term used for "blood count" (hemograma, conteo sanguíneo completo, or análisis de sangre in common language) in Puerto Rico and maybe other areas. "Contaje" is not a Spanish word, but it's shaped as a galicismo, though the French terms for this are nowhere near to it (numération, compte). It looks like the Spanish translation of the verb "count" influenced by the galicismo "dosaje".

Yo creo que se refiere a un analisis de sangre. Contaje de contar se correspondería con recuento o conteo, creo que se refiere a cuando analizan la sangre para estimar el número de glóbulos blancos en ella y si sale alto suele indicar una infección puesto que los glóbulos blancos forman parte del sistema inmunitario del cuerpo humano, protegiéndole contra virus y bacterias.
Ok sorry, in english i think their talking about analising the patient,s blood to count the amount of white blood cells which indicate the presence of infection
If reaching higher concentration on blood. They are part of our body inmunity system and they increases their number when detecting health threats

Shortenning explanation: they didn't know how to do a white blood cell count or directly an blood análisis
