Dormir

Howdo we say dormir al niño in this context?
Cuando duerma al niño te llamo.

Once I get the child to sleep...

Once the child is sleeping...

Well, although this is true.......we really don't say "Once I put the child to sleep I will call you."

Usually, ----- "I will call you once I put Johnny (or "the baby" or my niece or my nephew, etc.) to sleep.

It isn't as generic sounding as in Spanish.

I'll give you a call when the kid falls asleep.---sounds a little rougher but real.

To put to sleep has a double meaning. It can be another way to saying
to euthanize.

@Poli: That's the same in Spanish. Pones a dormir al perro cuando está muy enfermo. :)

Well.......the kids, yes - the kid (only if it is not your child and there are really no feelings attached to this "kid") or it is the father talking about his child...

Rusty November 17, 2012 01:44 AM

Both are fine.
