Entretener

Entretener has different meanings in English and some of them are difficult to translate can anybody help?
Situation on a phone conversation

(I enjoy watching TV.)

The last sentence can be translated as
"Sometimes, to take the edge off (my) hunger, I drink a glass of water."

And what you have an appointment but you te entretienes hablando con alguien, how can we say that?
I was held back ????

la tele me entretiene????

I already answered the second question. "I enjoy watching TV." ("The TV entertains me," is a more literal translation, but isn't used as much.)

When you're supposed to be somewhere else but te entretuviste hablando, you were too busy talking (and didn't keep track of/notice the time).
You can say, "I got held up."
