A job position name
Hello,
Please help me to choose the most appropriate word among the below listed ones, to refer to a person that Works at a scientifc research institute and is charge of giving support to the board regarding to the scientific, budget and strategic planning of the Insititution, the external relation (public, politicians, partners), etc. In Portuguese (my language) is "Assessor". The words I have found to translate it are: Advisor adviser consultant Counsellor Which one would be better understood on a personal card, for example? Or would you make other suggestion? Thank you in advance for your help. Regards Jan |
"Asesor técnico" en castellano (?)
Are you asking only for the English terms or the Spanish ones? |
Advisor / adviser (see Wiktionary page for a discussion which can help you decide which vowel to use) is probably the best of the ones listed. It's a fairly neutral word for someone who gives advice.
Consultant in current business English tends to imply someone who works for a different company which hires him out to give advice. Counsellor has the disadvantage that people can easily confuse it with the more common councillor (local politician). |

Thank you for answering, but I need only the English translation. In this case, Portuguese and Spanish are similar, isn't it? Jan Quote:
Thank you for the very good explanation. This is why I love Tomisimo! Regards Jan Can you please give me one more advice? Considering the main involved subjects in the adviser/advisor activities: scientific research, scientific programs planning, strategic planning and others, do you think it is acceptable to add the word "technical" (Technical adviser), as we use in Portuguese (Assessor Técnico)? Thank you again and Regards jan |
That's getting sufficiently specific that I don't think it can be answered by anyone outside the field. Maybe you can find some relevant scientific journals and look at the job adverts?
