Increased awareness - Ayuda por favor!

Buenos Dias a todos........

Me podrían decir cual sería la mejor traducción de:

- increased awareness

I know awareness = conciencia pero por alguna razón no suena bien.

Gracias.....

Yo me referiria a -aumentar la percepcion humana.

Alfonso July 14, 2008 12:36 PM

¿Puedes dar algo más de contexto, Elaina?

Tomisimo July 14, 2008 02:35 PM

Do you mean something like this Elaina?

There is an increased awareness of global warming.
Ha habido un aumento de conocimiento acerca del calentamiento global.

Buenos Dias!

Gracias por su ayuda. Es posible que sepan que estoy traduciendo un documento que habla de PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and it talks of.... symptoms and/or problems of increased awareness, such as: problems with concentration, flashes of inappropriate anger, etc. etc. etc.

This is where I am having problems. The "normal" translation just doesn't seem correct for this context.

Thanks again for your help!

Elaina the reason you can't translate this is because the sentence you need translating doen't make sense. It's contradictory because increase awareness will help you concentrate more--not less. You can second guess the writer and assume he/she meant symptoms of increased sensitivity causing problems with concentration an flashes of...
Do you think that is what the writer wished to convey?

Elaina July 15, 2008 07:39 AM

It's true! Sometimes I get so involved with the translation that I don't realize the original document doesn't make sense.

The exact statement is as follows:

Often there are symptoms (problems) of increased awareness including:
-problems with concentration
-flashes of inappropriate anger
-difficulty falling or staying asleep
-increased alertness or vigilance

What do you think?

I appreciate your help....

I think "problems of increased awareness" is a poor choice of words.A better choice would be "problems of increased sensitivity" which I think
would translate like this síntomas de hipersensibilidad que incluye:
Wait, though, to see if somebody else has more definitive better term
in Spanish.

Alfonso July 15, 2008 08:28 AM

Problemas o síntomas de hipersensibilidad suena perfectamente en español.
Hipersensibilidad se utiliza a menudo, técnicamente y comercialmente:

Cremas para pieles hipersensibles.

Often there are symptoms (problems) of increased awareness including:
-problems with concentration
-flashes of inappropriate anger
-difficulty falling or staying asleep
-increased alertness or vigilance

Los síntomas (problemas) más usuales en un estado de alerta constante (estado crónico de alerta/estado de alerta continua) son:
- problemas de concentración
- Estallidos emocionales (agresividad)
- Dificultad para despertarse/conciliar el sueño
- Hipervigilancia

my try, but there are lots of options. I have threated "increased alertness" and "increased awareness" as an equal term because I don't find a proper word with "consciencia". I'm not an expert...
Saludos :D

Sosia,
Increased awareness is usually not a sign of pathology. Los síntomas escritas reflejan una enfermidad como mania.

Tiny corrections.

Elaina July 16, 2008 09:43 AM

Es interesante todo lo que han escrito. Creo que el autor trató de decir que la persona se torna más sensible (o hipersensible) y que también puede haber otros problemas tales como.....

I will have to be careful and make sure I pay more attention to what I am translating...maybe if I re-write the English portion it will be easier in Spanish.

Thanks everyone!

Welcome back Sosia - I missed you!:applause:
