Canancol

What does "el canancol" mean?

There's no context, it is a headline of a story for children.

"Canancol" is a Maya word. There is a legend referring to this scarecrow-like doll as some sort of guardian that the peasants put in the middle of their fields to protect their property against all kinds of thieves.

¡Gracias! ¡Ahí va! He pensado es podría significar 'espantapájaros' pero no he pensado podría estar en lo cierto.

Is this sentence right, if I want to say: "Thanks! Oh dear, I thought it could be mean "scarecrow", but I never thought I could be right.

Se parece, pero no es exactamente un espantapájaros. Es un guardián que evita que animales y personas se roben la cosecha.

More natural sounding:
Thanks! Duh, I thought it might mean 'scarecrow', but never thought I might be right.

Además de eso, ¿es verdad? Era mi conjetura antes de saber que era un guardián.

Vale. Mi pregunta se refería a la sentencia española.
