"pg:d"
English-language TV programs have parental warnings such as L (language), S (sex) and V (violence) at the beginning.
I'm watching a telenovela called La Hija del Mariachi which has this little box on the upper left of the screen that says TV PG D I'm wondering why it says Parental Guidance (if that's what it really means) in English, but mainly what does D stand for? Maybe diálogo? At least to my ears, the language is not bad although I'm no expert. |
The rating appears to be the English-language rating. In that case, the 'D' means 'Suggestive Dialog'.

Wikipedia agrees with you that TV-PG means that the program contains material unsuitable for children, and D means that there is some profanity in the dialogue.
Lately, telenovelas include many bad words and bold scenes that weren't allowed a few years ago. Although I know that children are exposed to much harsher material everywhere, there is crime and at least an abusive alcoholic father there, so in my opinion, it's right to warn adults that children might see things they probably shouldn't. ;) |
Makes sense Rusty but I still wonder why a Colombian program stuck with the English term PG. Isn't there a Spanish equivalent?
|
Yes, there is in some countries, but you're seeing English TV ratings, super-imposed over the telenova.
Colombia has no ratings, per se. Source |
