Word That Describes Declined Credit Card Transaction In Spanish
 

While traveling, my credit card was declined and the cashier used a word to tell me it was declined that I didn't understand. In Spanish I asked what the word meant and she said that it didn't pass. The word sounded like "entregada" but I don't think that is correct. Is there a word that sounds like "entregada" to describe a declined transaction?

If it rhymed with entregada, it sounds like she might have been using the Spanish passive voice to describe your predicament.

... fue rechazada.
... fue declinada.
... no fue aceptada.

Anglicism. I suppose it's very common to hear it in Spanish from the States, but it's wrong south of Rio Grandi -called Bravo, south of itself- or east of the pond.

Some banks say "declinada", but the most common word is "rechazada".

By the way, "...no fue aceptada" is also often heard when the cashier wants to be more polite. ;)

Thank you all for the suggestions. I believe the word used was "denegada", as I experienced another declined transaction later at another establishment and was able to read it on the machine.

It was the transaction the one denegada, not the credit card. That happens when -momentarily- there's no way to check the card is legit and such transactions are possible using it. Your card would be rechazada if such a check can be performed and it comes negative. It seems, somewhere, they use the Anglicism declinada -which is a Spanish word with a different meaning- to blurry refer to both situations.

La transacción fue denegada. You can try again later, or somewhere else.
La tarjeta fue rechazada. Your card is no longer valid, or the system thinks so.
