Mi Padre Pobre / Mi Pobre Padre

I began learning Spanish fifty odd years ago (I'm a slow learner) and I remember reading in one text-book that one of those structures means "My pitiable father" and the other one means "My father who doesn't have much money". Can someone please refresh my memory which is which?

I think "Padre pobre" means short of money but I'm not sure, can anyone please clarify?

You have it right. Una persona pobre is a person lacking money. Una pobre persona implies pathos.

How do you say "The man who lives next-door but one"? As in "The man who lives next-door but one ¡es más patán que nadie que haya conocido, pero no tiene mala leche!"

"El señor que vive a dos puertas de la casa", "el hombre que vive de la casa de al lado a la otra", "el vecino de aquí a dos casas"...

¡Gracias - y sí que lo es - muy del pueblo!

Re my first posting here - when my daughter lived in Spain there was a street near her house called 'c/ de jesus Pobre' and we'd agree that it probably meant "Jesus who had very little money". Which was probably true!

"Jesús Pobre" or "Jesús el Pobre" is an "advocación", one way to talk about Jesus, whose poverty is considered a holy virtue; this could be said as "Jesus, the one who is poor". You can say "Jesús Salvador" (Jesus, the one who saves), "Jesús de la Salud" (Jesus, the one who heals), "Jesús, el Buen Pastor" (Jesus, the good shepherd), etc. The fact that there are many "names" given to Jesus or the Virgin, doesn't mean these are many different persons, but that they have many virtues. :)
