Bizarro
I was surprised to see that bizarro means gallant or splendid. Can it be used to mean strange in Latin American Spanish?

That's the actual meaning of the word, but due to the fact that we often ignore the meaning of uncommon words, plus the influence of English (and probably French too in this case), it's used with the meaning of "strange" almost everywhere. :blackeye:
I wouldn't be surprised if this usage also had something to do with the old character "Bizarrro", Superman's "evil twin". :D |
