I have come across some examples where sírvase is used similarly to favor de. Is this term used in Mexico?

Yes, it is, although "favor de" is more frequently used. :)

I'd just add that sírvase Is a little bit of a command. Like 80% favor de and 20% of "Be good, behave and do ask asked".
