Y la pague con un desgraciado

Hola a todos,

There is the following dialogue in the movie Carne de Horca:

- A la paz de Dios.
- No le había reconocido. Perdone.
- ¿Qué ha sido lo de Vargas?
- ¿Vargas? Que nadie está libre de que a un señorito juerguista le hierba la sangre un mal día y la pague con un desgraciado.
- Se sabe quién fue?
- Dicen que Juan Pablo de Osuna.

Well, although I think I understand the general meaning of the sentence (A young reveller whose blood boils on a bad day can kill any unfortunate person, no one is safe/free from this.) I don't understand this part: "y la pague con un desgraciado."

I understand the phrase "pagar la sangre con sangre" (in the context of revenge), but "pagar la sangre con un desgraciado" is very unclear to me.

Maybe I misunderstand something about this phrase?

The scene in question starts at 34:00.

Thank you.

A hot -blooded young man's temper was quenched by the victimization (perhaps death) of an unfortunate man.

Thank you, poli.

While you might be right, I still have a little doubt.

The events of the movie unfold as follows:

1. Lucero's gang kills Juan Pablo's father.
2. Juan Pablo goes to Vargas to ask him where he can find Lucero.
3. When Juan Pablo talks to Vargas, Lucero's accomplice kills Vargas through the window and escapes.
4. Juan Pablo rushes after him. People see Juan Pablo run out of Vargas' house after the sound of gunfire and think he is the one who killed Vargas.
5. Lucero's men then find Juan Pablo themselves and bring him to the gang.
6. To infiltrate the gang, Juan Pablo tells Lucero that he killed a man named Vargas.
7. Lucero sends one of his men to find out what happened to Vargas.

I understand that phrase, but I wouldn't say it that way. We'd choose between two sides of the same coin:

...y se desquite con un desgraciado.

or

... y la termine pagando un desgraciado.

A poor sod (un desgraciado) ended up dead (el pago) allegedly because Juan Pablo had to vicariously avenge or assuage his pain (el desquite) doing that.
