In a scene in the movie Carne de horca, Juan Pablo talks to the officer and explains that he has infiltrated Lucero's gang and can help catch Lucero. The officer says he needs 2 or 3 hours to mobilize more men. Juan Pablo says he will leave earlier.

Oficial: Pero entonces usted sabe donde está el Lucero.
Juan Pablo: En el cortijo del Carmen. A menos de una legua del camino a Grazalema, pasado el Hoyo de los Muertos. ¿De cuántos hombres dispone?
Oficial: De 20. Puedo movilizar más, pero necesitaré dos o tres horas.
Juan Pablo: Bien, yo llegaré antes.
Oficial: ¿Qué dice? Si le dejo escapar y no consigo capturar al Lucero me fusilarán.
Juan Pablo: Y si no estoy antes del anochecer matarán al hijo de Flores y cuando oigan el primer disparo al otro.

Context: Previously, Lucero's gang kidnapped Don Flores' son and demanded a ransom from Don Flores. Lucero instructed Juan Pablo to deliver the ransom demand to Don Flores and then inform if Don Flores had paid the ransom or not. That is why Juan Pablo says: "Y si no estoy antes del anochecer matarán al hijo de Flores."

What is unclear to me is the phrase "y cuando oigan el primer disparo al otro." I'm not absolutely sure, but suspect that the verb "matarán" is omitted and the complete sentence should be "y cuando oigan el primer disparo matarán al otro." But who could this "el otro" be?

A little earlier (at 1:09:54), Juan Pablo talks to the priest and asks him to help him. The priest asks, "¿Para continuar tu venganza?" (Lucero's gang killed Juan Pablo's father) And Juan Pablo responds: "Para salvar a dos seres. Si yo sigo aquí uno de los dos será asesinado y tan solo yo puedo evitarlo, debe ayudarme padre."

Grammatically, can Juan Pablo refer to himself when he says "y cuando oigan el primer disparo al otro", implying that when the soldiers launch an attack Lucero's gang would consider him a traitor and kill him?

I remember that scene. I don't want to drop any spoiler here but, wasn't there a young member of Lucero's gang that once hesitated when asked to kill a captive and would be finished should he do it again? I mean, the kind of "malo bueno" who can still get redemption, a usual character in these popular dramas. I think this is "el otro (al que habrían de matar)".

I can't confirm because a lot of things happen later, and I've already deleted the movie.

Yes, you're absolutely right, there is a character in the movie who hesitated when asked to kill a kidnapped man whose relatives reported the kidnapping to the authorities. And if the bandits asked him to kill don Flores' son he would probably refuse and got killed.

But Juan Pablo says "y cuando oigan el primer disparo al otro". What is the connection between the soldiers who are going to attack the place where Lucero and his gang are (doesn't "el primer disparo" refer to it) and that character who hesitated to kill the innocent person?

It beats me. I could only speculate. As I remember it, if Juan Pablo doesn't bring the ransom money, they'll kill the kidnapee and they probably think he stealed that money, so when the first shot
is heard they'll know they have been betrayed and they retaliate against any suspect, starting by the uncomitted young criminal.

Without any context (I haven't seen the movie), this could mean to do something when you hear the second shot.

"cuando oigan el primer disparo al otro"

I other words, after you hear the first shot, then when you hear the next shot (then do something).

Of course, without having seen the actual context, this could be completely off base. :)

"cuando oigan el primer disparo" means "cuando comience el tiroteo/ la balacera", not some coreography to the beat of every single shot.

The interpretation of that dialogue depends on things already happened at the moment those words are uttered. Besides, all speculation is rendered moot as Juan Pablo is going back with the money or some excuse, or at least he'll try to do it (I ain't tellin' nothin' ... nothin'!)

There are two kidnapped men: when Juan Pablo sees Flores Jr., and the guys talk about the ransom while saying Lucero has no patience, there is another man on the floor; he is "el otro".
Juan Pablo knows that if he doesn't get there with the money, Flores will be killed, and Lucero will then kill the other man as soon as the gang is under attack by the police.
"Cuando oigan el primer disparo" means "as soon as they hear the police shooting at them".
