The money that he makes/he has/he brings in/he takes home is not enough.

Are any of my guesses for entra right?

The money that comes in (the home) is not enough. (although is not a correct translation I would say "it does not stretch much")

Yes, all of those would be correct and you forgot the female part. :-)

But when a phrase that can be translated to or from english easily without "twisting" it it is better.

By "twisting it", I mean there are many ways to say the same thing, but in different forms in English, right? Well, in Spanish too. :-)

La plata que el/ella trae a casa no alcanza para nada.
La plata que el/ella trae a casa no dura lo suficiente.
El dinero que el/ella trae a casa no alcanza para nada.

And so on... :)

Plata means silver, and is one really common way of saying money. Yes dinero is money.
