Caliente / Picante

Caliente / Picante

irmamar May 27, 2009 01:53 PM

AngelicaDeAlquezar May 27, 2009 04:26 PM

I agree with irmamar that "caliente" is only for temperature... But after tasting something "picante" in Mexico, you'd say "¡me enchilééééééé!". ;)

Jessica May 27, 2009 04:28 PM

right we learned picante as spicy, hot so caliente must only be for temperature :P

chileno May 27, 2009 07:14 PM

En chile se dice: me pica. :)

Yes, you can use the word caliente to express the temperature of the some food that you wanna eat, but anyhow the word caliente is likely used to say when something, object or other thing is hot.

It is so important I will put it into English for those whose Spanish is limited, to prevent embarrassing situations!

Never say "Estoy caliente" except when you are seeking amorous attention! If the temperature bothers you, you must say "Tengo calor". It is a very, very important distinction. If you get it wrong it could cause many unwanted problems!

Agree:applause:
"Estoy caliente" it's like "I'm horny" :o

So, '¡Estoy caliente porque ese comida esta picante!' would indicate some kind of weird spicey-food fetish. :) Interesante.

Ah, I didn't understand the last word. Well, anyway it's a very impolite way of saying such things.

Edit: (I meant I hope I never have to use my phrase)

That would actually be a bit more than interesting... It's good you have understood exactly what it would mean though. :D

No, it would indicate that your grasp of Spanish was limited!

Please keep this thread on topic and don't insult others or it will be closed.

We are all learning a language to some extent, whether we're beginners or more advanced. There is no reason to put others down. If someone doesn't understand something, then explain where they went wrong. Thanks!

No biggie Tomisimo; sometimes it's hard to tell when someone is joking in forum posts. I'm quite use to being misinterpreted. The duel languages just adds to the confusion sometiems. :)

Angelica understood you, so did I. :D

Good to see that you can play with words and concepts. :)

That's my animator's brain for you; I'm always playing with words. For evidence, see my recent post in the 'Pantorrilla' word of the day thread. (A pun that I'm sure only works if you translate the Spanish to English).
