Not sure if this is where this question belongs, but when Spanish people talk, they use the filler word "este" between thoughts or sentences. What would the English translation be? ..."um"??

That is exactly right. Filler words like these are called muletillas (little crutches) in Spanish.

I'd say more "esto..." than "este..."
