Guantes

This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for July 13, 2009

guantes (masculine noun (los)) — gloves. Look up guantes in the dictionary

Si usas guantes para cambiar la llanta del auto, no tendrás que lavarte las manos después.
If you use gloves to change the car tire, you won't have to wash your hands afterward.

Los guantes son buenísimos para les proteger a los manos mientras se está mezclando las sustancias químicas peligrosas.

We use the word Gauntlet in English for a long armoured or leather glove. I think from Norman French gantelet. The Germans are very logical and call gloves Handschuhe.

Do they call shoes fütgloves?

Where can I use the word afterward.

I know that the word afterward means despues.

But I want to know if can replace that word with later.

We can go jeeping later
Afterward, we can go jeeping (afterward" es al principio de la oración:D)

Ambas frases son correctas:)

Later = tarde

In Britain we always say "afterwards"

Quizá esto puede ayudarte

Later is more broad then afterward(s)

Later (sometime) [broad] we are going to the movies
I work until 5PM, afterwards (refers to a more precise point in time) we are going to the movies

Espero que te ayude

Thank you for your fast answer.

After to know every this about the use of the word despues. I believe that, I'm going to turn to use the word afterwards it sound much better than the other one.

Thank you very much.

As was explained above, later and afterward(s) are not always interchangeable. Both words have distinct meanings and are used the same way in England and America, with the exception that the British don't use afterward; they always say afterwards.

CrOtALiTo July 13, 2009 10:06 PM

I got it

chileno July 14, 2009 07:50 AM

Thank you Rusty. I also should have written that i wanted to confirm, instead or to know, its usage in England.
