How would you use it in a sentence?
|
Generally it is said when something goes wrong and if the change where to be produced then it would be all good.
Generally.... If Perón had not died, everything would be really different in Argentina. Si Perón no hubiera muerto otro gallo cantaría in Argentina. |
Thanks Chileno, that helps.

¡Gracias Chili! :) :rose:
(i.e. 'If I had not done so and so, things would be different') Por ejemplo: 'Si no me hubiera casado con mi marido, otro gallo cantaría en mi vida' ? |
You can use it for everything:
Si no me hubiera casado con mi marido, otro gallo me cantaría (everything could be worse). Si hubiera terminado la carrera, otro gallo me cantaría (it would be better). This saying comes from the fact of the cock (gallo?) who sang three times before St. Peter refused to Jesus (first he had denied that possibility). St. Peter refused Jesus and the cock (?) sang three times. When he heard the cock, he realized what happened. |

Well 'cock' is used as well I think, but it does have the other meaning too, so I think it might be better better to use 'rooster'. :D I'm not sure but I think perhaps you mean 'deny' instead of 'refuse'? :) (St Peter denied knowing Jesus I believe) I think 'negar' can mean both 'to deny' as 'to refuse' in Spanish, correct? :) |

Yes, I should use "deny", but as I was going to use "deny" later, I was looking for a synonymous to avoid redundancy. |

In fact in Spanish sometimes I almost despair, when I see one verb can have maybe 20 different meanings and I am trying to figure out how to use one, or which is best.. :D |

What does "wanna trade places" mean?
1. Otro gallo te cantaría 2. Nada en dos platos. |

2. I don't know what Nada en dos platos means |

I had been looking, since yesterday, for a saying in English that would compare to "otro gallo cantaría". Thanks Poli! |
