O se trata más de una expresión que se utiliza más por 'cosas generales' como una situación que se aplica a un grupo de personas, un país, un era/época etc?

You can use it for everything:

Si no me hubiera casado con mi marido, otro gallo me cantaría (everything could be worse).
Si hubiera terminado la carrera, otro gallo me cantaría (it would be better).

Well 'cock' is used as well I think, but it does have the other meaning too, so I think it might be better better to use 'rooster'.

I'm not sure but I think perhaps you mean 'deny' instead of 'refuse'?

I think 'negar' can mean both 'to deny' as 'to refuse' in Spanish, correct?

I've looked rooster up in a dictionary and it said that it was "gallo" in AmE. I've seen also cock and cockerel. Now I'm not sure what's the word for BrE.

I see That happens to me a lot actually.. I write something, think something whilst writing it (a correction or something I want to check), tell myself I will correct it and then later I get so wrapped up in the text that I forget all about it.

In fact in Spanish sometimes I almost despair, when I see one verb can have maybe 20 different meanings and I am trying to figure out how to use one, or which is best..
