Madid & some spanish words

Hi
I found it a very interesting Madrid info.
Info madrid times
All the words (at the end of the article) are slang but of very common use here. The phonetics are funny:
THE GLOSSARY

What they never taught you in Spanish 101.

Guay (gwhy) Cool.

Cojonudo (ko-ho-NOO-doh) Better than cool.

Me mola (may MO-la) Love it!

Alucino (ah-lu-THEE-no) Can't believe it!

Paso (PAH-so) Couldn't care less.

Juerguista (hwer-GHEE-stah) Party animal.

Cutre (KOO-tray) Seedy, lacking class. Sometimes used affectionately, as in, “Sometimes the most cutre places serve the best tapas.”

Ligar (lee-GAR) To pick up someone.

Hortera (or-TER-ah) Flashy, tacky, kitschy.

Fashion (FASH-yohn) Trendy, obsessed with the latest. Used as an adjective, not necessarily related to clothing, as in, “The people who hang out in Chueca are really fashion.”

Gente guapa (HEN-tay GWA-pah) Beautiful people.

Pijo (PEE-ho) A posh and conservative type, as in, “That party at the golf club was crawling with pijos.”

saludos:D

Excellent list of words. Eight of those terms were totally new to me. I'm really lacking in slang from Spain, since I'm mostly in contact with people from Mexico or Central America. Thanks!

Thanks, the only one I knew was guay.

gente guapa and ligar are also really common and are not limited to Madrid/Spain.

A few other very common Madrid slang:
Debuti - The most common way to say "cool"
Mazo (remember the c and z in Madrid is pronounced like a th) - same as "mucho"
gilipollas ex:tu hermano es un poco gilipollas -- similar to a "jerk"
Pedo - is still used for its actual meaning of "fart" though also commonly used for "drunk" ex:estoy pedo.

Isn't pedo more like a swear word?

Hi v9
No, pedo is a very common word, but often only used by kids (as "fart") and by adults as "drunk".
As "fart" it's not offensive (swear word), but it's not polite (it's like a dirty word, like "fart" in english??? used by Bart Simpson, but not in adult movies)
As "drunk" is slang.

saludos
